Carbon footprint and sustainability roadmap
By mapping carbon emissions across scope 1, 2 and 3 using the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, we provided an overview of where in the value chain the company could make the largest impact.
The client received a road map with concrete steps to improve sustainability. The road map covered internal reduction measures, supply chain measures, actions towards customers and internal data and infrastructure measures.
Improving logistics efficiency in Germany, the Netherlands and the UK
Experiencing strong growth, both organically and through frequent acquisitions, the company aimed to build a sustainable future by offering services like sale, recovery and reclamation. Despite logistics being key, operations were costly and ineffective, with logistics being the second largest cost driver.
We advised on strategic priorities to enhance operational efficiency, develop a revised go-to-market strategy and implement compliant returns processes. We assessed multiple scenarios to achieve short-term savings and long-term capability improvements and organised the findings in a prioritisation matrix with detailed impact assessments and an implementation road map.
Results included reducing logistics costs (warehousing and transport) by more than 20%, eliminating approximately 0.5 million kilometres of road transport and defining an optimised logistics structure and systems landscape for future growth.
Future global warehouse footprint for high-end fashion house
The project scope included the future global warehouse and distribution footprint, with the main drivers being:
The current warehouse footprint and capacity not being able to meet expected growth - meeting future growth and customer requirements in the most optimal manner - ensuring efficiency in terms of both cost and CO2 footprint.
The project resulted in the projection and modelling of future warehouse capacity requirements, identification of new warehouse locations, automation potential and distribution set-ups.
It also led to the creation of business cases and a transformation plan, ensuring sufficient warehouse capacity until 2028/2029. Additionally, it achieved annual cost savings of ~10%, rising to ~28% once the full transition is completed, and reduced the CO2 footprint by ~16% compared to the baseline.
EcoVadis for the service industry
The project gathered and developed the necessary documentation in four main areas: environment, sustainable procurement, ethics and labour and human rights.
The initiative fostered collaboration across the Legal, Finance, Facility, IT and HR departments, resulting in the company achieving a remarkable EcoVadis score and a solid CSR documentation framework. Suppliers were also invited to obtain certification.
Overall, the project kick-started future efforts to improve the company’s sustainability goals.
